It’s THAT time of year again, and I feel inspired to give some money away.
What “time” you ask? It’s time for bloggers everywhere to unite in calling our readers to action on a tough social issue that affects every community in the world in some way or another. It’s time for Blog Action Day 2008, and this year’s topic is poverty. In the midst of the world economic crisis, I can’t think of a more relevant topic.
I don’t know why I didn’t think of this earlier, but I was just inspired by some of the movement already happening in the blogging community when I saw @blogactionday post this:
http://tinyurl.com/bad08hunger Leave a comment and $1 goes to a food bank. Take 30 seconds and do it.
So first off: Go right now over to PINK ASPARAGUS and leave a comment!
Second, being inspired, here is what I am going to do:
For every RSS or email subscriber I have at the end of Blog Action Day (11:59PM, October 15th, 2008), I’ll donate $1 to the local Salvation Army (food pantry and surplus discount shopping store). My current subscriber count is 31, so that means a MINIMUM of $31 is going to the Hillsdale County Salvation Army. Let’s see how high we can get it by the end of October 15th, 2008.
On top of that, I’ll add to the donation $1 for every NEW Twitter follower I have by the end of October 15th, 2008. Right now I’m at 61 followers. Jump on and follow me!
So there you have it. I challenge YOU to spread the word about That INDIE Dude and make a difference doing it. Use the links below to share this on Facebook, StumbleUpon it, Digg it, Tweet it — WHATEVER goes!
I also challenge ALL my blogger friends out there to get in on Blog Action Day 2008 and make your own commitment! It doesn’t have to be monetary; I’m calling you ALL out: Tonya? Josh? Frank? Andrew? Veerle? Gary? AJ? Tony? Ronald? Dori? Get in on it! Everyone else? Pester these folks in the most supportive yet annoying way possible
So, if any of you take me up on this challenge, feel free to give yourself a little extra exposure by commenting on it below! Let the games begin
Small Print: I’m going to reserve the right to set a CAP on the donation at $500. I don’t really think it’ll get that far, and if it did I’m not totally sure I would enforce the cap, but just in case
UPDATE: I’m extending this to the end of Friday, October 17th, 2008!
I’ll drop a post to let you all know the results on October 18th, but for reference until then, check out the counters below:

Haha! I made the deadline for October 17th’s donation through you! Thank you, Alex, for taking this action.
I’ve just read the book “No More Prisons” and it was revolutionary and inspirational. Written by a Chicago man with a heart and mind focused on preserving street culture, facilitating the unseen skills of so many ghetto intellects/artists, and taking action if you find yourself among the cool “privileged” folk.
I’ve been feeling the call to take my natural talent for inspiring people to the next level and actually direct it. It is enough to create a community of inspired people, but what if we all worked together. Well, Upski, the author of “No More Prisons” and “Bomb the Suburbs” suggested the need for non-profit fundraising. ALL of the cool non-profits you know of are funded by cool corporations and organizations that have money set aside for doing just such giving. Unfortunately, while they have a department to procure funds for themselves, they often don’t have the same infrastructure to disperse their funds. In other words, your non-profit can make a HUGE difference with wildlife, poverty, health advocacy, legalization, and environmentalism if you learn how to reach these cool corporation’s funds.
Fundraising and non-profits. If you find any information based on starting a non-profit to organize other non-profits funds intake, that’s what I’m interested in.
Every day I do what I can to make a difference on the personal front - in one animal’s life or one person’s life. But an organization can reach so many more. Thanks for doing this work, Alex!

Hahahaha — Yes, you DID make the deadline — a long time ago
It was for RSS subscribers and Twitter followers — not comments… hehe
But, my wonderful sister, thanks a ton for the support — always. I’ll send you any info I dig up… I have a non-profit in the works as well. You might see news of it as early as tomorrow! (Sssshhhhhh….)
I love you, sis!

How you think when the economic crisis will end? I wish to make statistics of independent opinions!
