Keeping things focused on YOU.

We’ve talked a lot on here about the importance of being YOU — indie, original, and true to your inner self.  From expressing your life, causes, and passions through art, to always being REAL and honest in your interactions with those around you.  But the question that keeps coming up in the comments and even more so in some e-mails I’ve received is an important one: how do you stay in touch with that inner self?

Of course there are no ground rules.  Everyone is different and has to figure that out for themselves.  But there are a few common ways that keep coming up, which I lean towards a lot.  

One way, is what the “Inspired” series is about: finding those things that inspire you most and latching on to them — feeding your passions.

Another is what the “Resources” series is about: learning the best practices in your field so you have the skills to crank out all your awesome ideas.

And this is the beginning of a new series: Uber-YOU.  

Sometimes the struggle is all about just living and interacting in the most efficient and effective ways.  Sometimes we just don’t have enough time to be ourselves.  Sometimes the outward demands are too big.  Sometimes we just need to find more time in the day by doing the things we’re already doing more efficiently.  No, I don’t want to make any suggestions on how you should brush your teeth in the morning or what kind of car you should drive.  I’m no expert at those.  For the general awesome living tips, PLEASE check out my friends at Life Hacker and Zen Habits .  They are awesome places to get great tips on just living life in a 21st century world.  

I have no intentions of competing with them, so we’re going to niche it up: Uber-YOU is going to be entirely focused on increased productivity and impact on the web and through connected technologies.  In this Web 2.0 (post 2.0?) world, there are a TON of ways to make your huge connected world a whole lot simpler.  This series is about finding the best of those systems and putting them to use.

So get ready for the posts to start flying, and leave your best tips and ideas in the comments!
