What does your life express?

I’m sitting at a Starbucks in L.A. right now, thinking: “this really is the most diverse place in the world.”

Everyone who comes through the door tells an entire life story in the way they hold themselves; the way they walk; the way they order their coffee.  Everyone has a past, a future, and most importantly - a present.  I try to make eye-contact with every single person. Some look me straight in the eye and smile; others keep their eyes to the distance and floor trying to hide in the crowd.  Still others busy themselves with their phones; laptops; newspapers - ignoring the world around them and trying to feel more important than everyone else.

Everyone has a different story.  Every life expresses something different.

Indie tip: Travel.

Posted at 4:13 PM on June 25th, 2008 by Alex

If you’ve been watching twitter, you’ll know that I’ve been on vacation for the last week in L.A. I’d hoped to throw up a couple updates here during that time, but quickly found out I just needed a complete break. I’m sure you know the feeling.

WELL — now vacation is over… kind of. I’ll actually be staying out here in Hollywood house-sitting for my sister for a month while she treks over to Thailand.  Drop me a line or @alexlinebrink me if you’ll be in the L.A. area in that time and want to meet up!

Driving up the 101

On a side note — travel.  That’s an official “indie living” tip.  It’s wonderful.  Sometimes the best way to know yourself and be real to that is to find the stuff that jives with your soul.  What better way to do that then to go different places and experience new things?

California comes highly recommended too.  It’s beautiful here.  Inspiring, really.

Making Headlines.

You can never be too loud, right?

Well, you can’t as long as you aren’t speaking over somebody else.

In fact - that’s marketing tip #2 (#1 being “be real”):  If there’s ever a silence, be loud.  Your thoughts will probably be welcomed, especially if you’re already following #1 and not trying to be something you really aren’t.  Silences occur when nobody else has anything to say.  That is your time to save everyone from the awkwardness, and shine at whatever you do best!

Hillsdale Daily News Article!Anyways, if this website isn’t loud enough, there was a big half-page feature on me in the local newspaper (The Hillsdale Daily News).  I doubt you’ll be able to read out of the pic, so there’s an online copy you can catch here.

I want to make a BIG shout-out to Nancy Hastings for being persistent in getting a hold of  me, and for
writing a WONDERFUL article!  Thank you Nancy!  Your generosity doesn’t go without notice.

If you’re here from the HDN article, WELCOME!  Thanks for stopping by.  Browse around, bookmark the page, and keep checking back.  There we soon be a TON of content here.

Have a great day - I’m off for lunch.

The Primer.

That INDIE Dude.

That’s me - Alex Linebrink.

I built this site partially because I was bored - I needed something to do. Another part was to show off - I wanted people to see that I can design, write, and engage this new connected world with ease, passion, and expertise.

The biggest reason, though, was to give back to the world and inspire others to live in the best way possible - giving back in the process.
