This post is part of an ongoing series at That INDIE Dude called “Inspired”. True creativity and originality demand true inspiration. The point of this series is to help readers find new and fresh areas of inspiration in their lives, so as to help them find their most creative and original selves.
HDR Photography.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography has been huge on the web for a couple years now. The idea is to combine the highlight details from under-exposed shots with the shadow details from over-exposed shots into a single image, in the process more accurately displaying the world that we see with our eyes. The result is something ofter earily realistic, dramatic, and at the same time synthetic.
Personally, I’ve been dabbling in HDR for about 6 months now, and use it almost exclusively for my photography. The reason? I decided a while ago that photo realism isn’t necessarily the “most real”. I want my photography to show the world as I see it — not as my camera sees it. So with every shot I apply heaps of HDR processing and effects. I haven’t quite got my photos to the point of inspiring the same emotional response I had when actually there and taking them, but they are a lot closer than the untouched shots
Maybe its just because I’m a crummy photographer, but I’m absolutely in love with HDR, and I hope this gallery inspires you in the same way!
Interested in getting into HDR? It’s a time consuming under-taking, but totally worth it if you like what you see here. I’ll follow up in a couple days with a new “Resources” post dedicated to doing HDR photography yourself.
This is going to be a 3 round series. Round 1 is 50 awesome HDR images found on Flickr. Next round will be images from Picasa, and the last round will be “everywhere else”. As always, click the pic for a link to the photo on Flickr and more from each artist. ENJOY!
